Fathers Day: Memories and History

my stepchildren, my family

Indeed, Fathers Day has a different meaning for everyone. For me (Martin Neameyer) the day brings happy memories. Besides growing up with a stepfather (Max). Who sst the bar for fathers who do not have the same DNA as the child they love. As well, there are all of the wonderful memories of being a father. And hanging on the lake with the kids. Also, spending time with my wife. Enjoying all of God’s gifts Fathers Day has to bring. From cooking his (my dad’s) favorite meal. Honoring him by raising children that I did not create for him is the perfect gift.

Our Heavenly Father gave us a gift when he came down to earth to show love. As well as his earthly father, Joseph. Indeed, that would have been his stepfather who raised him. Indeed, it shows us how to love others. Even if they are not our biological children. Also to have faith that there is a father up above who cares deeply for us. On this page, we share some history of the day that honors dads. As well as one of my dad’s New Mexico Enchiladas Recipe that I pass down to my children here.

When is Dads Day?

Ancient Fathers Day was any day you decided to do so. Indeed, celebrate Dad every day if you choose to. But in 1966, Lyndon B. Johnson stated that Father’s Day was to honor dads. And it will be on the third Sunday in June. In 1972, Richard M. Nixon made the law. So, as an American Holiday! Father’s Day is on the third Sunday of June.

How do you celebrate Father’s Day? Most celebrate it by giving their fathers gifts. Or cooking their favorite meals. What do you eat on Fathers Day? Well, I would eat my father’s favorite meal in memory of him. My father Max would always make New Mexico enchiladas. Also known as flat enchiladas for the family. We all love them! So, that is my choice to make on Fathers Day. Indeed, I have made these many times for my children. And now I am blogging it to pass down to the grandchildren. In fact, a meal brings back many memories.
