My husband, being a Navy Veteran wears his red white blue outfit with the Eagle Shirt. As wear my red white blue dress showing our love, and support for fallen soldiers’ families. We will dive into the history of Memorial Day. As well as how you show your respect for this day of remembrance on this blog.

Memorial Day History: Past and Present

In fact, Memorial Day was once known as Decoration Day for over a century. Also known as Remembrance Day. After the Civil War on May 5, 1868, the Union Veterans Organization was in charge of decorating graves after the war. At the time, the nation was placing flowers. And personal decorations on loved ones’ graves.

Indeed, in the 1880s, Memorial Day was made a federal holiday. Besides remembering all veterans who lost their lives in the Civil War. Also, the day is to honor all who have given their lives for our freedom in all wars. Most Americans spend this day with family. While enjoying the outdoor summer breeze. As well as grilling sausages for cookouts. Or enjoying fine wine. And cheese on a nice picnic. Most of all, we are thankful for those heroes who gave their lives. So, we can spend another day with our families.
